This Is How MetalRican Was Created

MetalRican did not start in a rehearsal room.

There were no band flyers on telephone poles.
No drummer looking for a guitarist.
No van full of gear driving to a garage practice.

MetalRican started with a question.

What happens when identity, technology, and metal collide?

The Beginning

The project was created by a Puerto Rican metal fan who grew up surrounded by two things:
heavy music and island culture.

Like many people who left Puerto Rico, the island never really leaves you.
It stays in the language you speak, the rhythm in your head, the way you see the world.

MetalRican was born from that tension.

The tension between where you came from and where you are now.

And between old-school metal culture and new technology.

Why Use AI?

Let’s address the obvious part.

MetalRican is an AI-assisted band.

But it’s not what people often imagine when they hear that.

This project is not about clicking a button and letting a machine spit out random songs.

Every track begins with human decisions.

The concepts.
The themes.
The lyrics.
The emotional direction of the song.

Those come first.

AI is used the same way producers use instruments, software, or studios:
as a tool.

It amplifies ideas.

It doesn’t replace them.

The conviction behind the music is still human.

Not Just One Genre

MetalRican was never meant to live inside one box.

Metal is the foundation — especially the aggressive side of it.

But the project also explores sounds connected to Puerto Rican culture and rhythm.

That means you might hear:

  • Death metal

  • Power metal

  • Rhythm-driven Latin elements

  • Experimental fusions

  • Spanish and English lyrics

MetalRican is not trying to imitate existing bands.

It’s trying to explore what metal could sound like when filtered through Puerto Rican identity and modern tools.

The First Songs

The first songs created under the MetalRican name focused on historical and cultural themes.

One example is “Grito de Lares,” inspired by the failed 1868 rebellion against Spanish rule.

It wasn’t about rewriting history.

It was about capturing the spirit of defiance even in defeat.

That idea — losing the battle but keeping the spirit alive — is something that resonates deeply with many Puerto Ricans.

A Project, Not a Persona

MetalRican is not pretending to be a traditional band.

There are no fake band photos.

No made-up band members.

No attempt to fool anyone.

This is a creative project exploring what happens when:

  • metal culture

  • Puerto Rican identity

  • storytelling

  • and modern AI tools

are all used together.

Why It Exists

MetalRican exists for one reason:

To build something interesting.

Not to replace musicians.

Not to fight culture wars.

Not to chase algorithms.

But to experiment with sound, identity, and storytelling in ways that weren’t possible before.

Some songs will be brutal.
Some will be melodic.
Some will probably surprise people.

And that’s exactly the point.

MetalRican is not here to follow a path.

It’s here to carve one.
