Identity isn’t always a gift. Sometimes, it’s a consequence.
On Monday, May 11th, I am releasing The Ancient Marrow, a full-length album from MetalRican. This project isn’t just a collection of songs; it is a sonic excavation of what remains when a culture is suppressed, renamed, and paved over. It is a fusion of heavy metal intensity and the gritty, cinematic reality of the Puerto Rican diaspora.

What is The Ancient Marrow?
The title of the album refers to a heritage that is “calcified”—something that exists deep within the bone, untouched by external laws or modern displacement. In tracks like “Mud and Lead” and “Born Through Fire,” the lyrics explore the idea that our history is physically bonded to us. We don’t just remember our past; we carry it in our marrow.
From the crushing industrial weight of the title themes to the haunting atmospheric defiance of “No Law Above the Colors,” this album explores the tension between the “Sanitized Paradise” sold to tourists and the “Island Unburied” that lives in the blood of its people.
A Narrative of Resistance
The narrative arc of The Ancient Marrow takes the listener through a landscape of struggle and resilience:
- The Weight of History: Tracks like “Blood in the Foundation” serve as a reminder that the modern world is built upon the labor and resilience of those it tries to forget. It posits that the “Boricua blood” beneath the concrete is a pulse that never stopped beating.
- Defiance of Law: “No Law Above the Colors” directly addresses the historical era of the Gag Law, where the simple act of owning a flag was an act of treason. The song reframes the flag as a “living sign” that outlasts any legislation.
- Modern Displacement: The album concludes with “Neon Coffin Coast,” a dark look at how tourism and gentrification attempt to “spray paint paradise over rust and decay” while the people are pushed inland.
The MetalRican Vision: Metal Reimagined
As the Creative Director and Producer of MetalRican, my goal was to create a sound that felt as heavy as the themes it carries. By utilizing advanced AI-powered generative tools and industrial production techniques, I’ve been able to manifest a vision that is raw, organic, and uncontained.
The Ancient Marrow is for the ones who feel the “rhythm passed through bone and nerve.” It is for those who know that even when a language is erased, the cadence remains.
How to Listen
The Ancient Marrow will be available on all major streaming platforms—including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube—on Monday, May 11th.
